With our university partners in Public Affairs and CUIT, we have begun the refresh process for the university-wide design system.

What is a design system?

Per NN/G, a design system is a complete set of standards intended to manage design at scale using reusable components and patterns.

Our design system includes the following:

Why use a design system?

As organizations scale, design systems save time and resources by empowering users to use a shared design language. This offers the benefits of reducing redundancy and creating visual consistency throughout the organization. And because we like bullets:

  • Design and development teams can use premade user interface (UI) elements quickly and consistently to replicate at scale
  • Frees up resources to focus on larger, more complex problems
  • Create visual consistency across cross functional teams and siloed departments

What’s next?

We are working with our university partners to expand and refine our design system, accessibility implications (ADA and WCAG), CU Sites enhancements, and streamlining user research group processes.
